Metal Oxygen Separation Technologies, Inc. (MOxST) is developing new technologies for producing high-purity metals and pure oxygen gas directly from metal oxides at low cost and with zero direct environmental emissions. In addition to lower industrial emissions and energy use, our metal products will drive innovation of a new generation of energy-efficient vehicles, and will help to accelerate the widespread deployment of solar energy and rare-earth magnets used in wind turbines and hybrid/electric cars by reducing their cost. The founders of MOxST have over 25 years of experience in materials process development and technology entrepreneurship.
Our Technology
MOxST is developing and scaling up the Solid Oxide Membrane (SOM) Electrolysis process and related technologies for making metals from their oxide ores with low capital, raw material and energy cost and zero chlorine or carbon emissions.
 
 
Rare-Earth Metals
Generators and motors for wind power and transportation electrification depend heavily on rare-earth magnets. SOM Electrolysis is robust, exhibits high current efficiency, and produces a low-oxygen product, making it ideal for producing and recycling the rare-earth metals used in magnets.
 
Solar Silicon
SOM Electrolysis is a low-cost low-energy process for making pure metals from their oxides, making it ideal for direct production of solar grade or upgraded metallurgical grade silicon directly from sand in order to reduce the cost of solar energy
 
 
Magnesium
SOM Electrolysis is the lowest-cost process for making magnesium metal, according to an independent cost analysis. MOxST is commercializing this process to meet the automotive industry's need for the most promising material for lighter and more efficient vehicles.
